Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan actor Jitendra Kumar reveals how his parents reacted to him playing a homosexual character

Jitendra Kumar of Kota Factory fame is set to debut in Bollywood with Ayushmann Khurrana's same-sex love story Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. The rom-com, he says, is going to be like just another love story, albeit between two men and not one man and one woman. Speaking to a daily, he revealed how his parents reacted after learning about his role.

The actor said that his family was happy after they learned that he was going to act in a romantic film, but a different one. However, for the initial 2-3 days, there was also some awkwardness and his parents did not openly talk about it. After that, they had a discussion about it and things were fine.

Jitendra also revealed that a handful of his friends came out to him, and it was through them that he learned that homosexuals are still subjected to immense mistreatment by their own family members. He added that until the Supreme Court's historical verdict regarding section 377 came out, he had no clue that homosexuality was a criminal offence in this country.

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, directed by Hitesh Kewalya, also stars Gajraj Rao and Neena Gupta, and will release on coming 21st February.
