MET GALA 2021: Jennifer Lopez, Megan Fox, Lil Nas X, Kim Kardashian, BLACKPINK’s Rosé, Rihanna and more steal spotlight on fashion’s biggest night

The Met Gala, referred to as the fashion world’s Oscar Night, usually falls on the first Monday of May. But after a year off because of the pandemic, the star-studded night returns on the second Monday of September in 2021 as an even more exclusive affair than before. The theme for the Met this year was- In America: A Lexicon of Fashion. It is fairly an Oscar de La Renta gala with most ladies strutting in big couture gowns. The star-studded event made heads turn with over-the-top looks for A-Listers from around the world. Let’s take a look at the best-dressed attendees this year-

ANNA WINTOUR

Anna Wintour who is an honorary and co-chairs the event this year showed up dressed in a gorgeous, floral printed tiered dress from Oscar de la Renta. The dress featured a plunging neck with ruffles and tiered ruffles on the bottom. She kept the styling simple with an embellished neck piece and her signature hair cut with a heavy fringe.

TIMOTHÉE CHALAMET

Timothée Chalamet turned up looking just like the charmer he is. He showed up wearing pieces from several designers which include pants from Rick Owens with a jacket from Haider Ackerman. He completed the look with trusty and basic white hi-top converse sneakers. He kept his look monotone in all white, except the black collar detail on a double-breasted jacket.

DAN LEVY

Dan Levy made quite a colourful appearance in a bold and sparkly Loewe collection. He styled balloon pants with the print of a map and sparkles which he paired with a shirt and heavily poofed up sleeves with tie-up and a minimalist collar. The outfit featured artwork by David Wojnarowicz that made a donation to AIDS for honouring the collaboration. She wears a shirt with a painting of two men kissing creating awareness for the LGBTQIA+ community.

MAISIE WILLIAMS

Maisie Williams walked the carpet in a gorgeous black heavily ruffled monokini with silver embellishments, a thick belt, and sheer stockings to complete the look. Her makeup was all drama with heavy eyes, a funky hairdo with and a poppy metallic green manicure.

BILLIE EILISH

Billie Eilish made a stunning appearance in a heavily tulle Oscar de la Renta outfit. She went all big, starkly contrasting to her usual baggy fits. She stole the thunder in a fitted, off-the-shoulder, nude tulle gown. Her styling was simple with very simple makeup and her hair in a typical 80’s bouncy updo. She perfectly channeled Old Hollywood vibes in this ombré effect dress with a fitted corset top.

LIL NAS X

Well, Lil Nas X pulled quite a Lady Gaga at the Met and went crazy with 3 outfit changes and each one getting wilder than the other. For the first one, he chose a dull gold trailing cape with a high collar and heavy work around the neckline reading the hem which portrays regality. The cape then sheds and shows the next look, he chose futuristic gold and went for a metallic, robotic look with power shoulder, knee pads, and a Medusa-like armour styled dream in pure, bright gold. This armour showcases holding a strong front as a Black Queer individual. For the last look he went for a heavily embellished black and gold bodysuit. He wore the collared, v neck with flared pants, full-sleeved arms and loafers to complete the look. This look signifies the importance of embracing your true self. All three looks are from Versace.

KAIA GERBER

Cindy Crawford’s daughter is just as much the fashionista as she is. She was seen dressed in a stunning cut piece broderie tube, poofy gown from Oscar de la Renta. She looked like an absolute dream in the bold piece with a soft embroidered fitted corset and a billowing skirt which was complemented with soft makeup and her hair in a neat side partition. The perfect way to go with the theme.

KARLIE KLOSS

Karlie Kloss cannot step out without making a statement. She looked ravishing in a red hot outfit. She dons a plunging neck, short dress from Carolina Herra. The dress featured a high collar with rose-like bloom. She wore this custom-made piece to signify the national flower of the Country- Rose. They have a rose in full bloom sort of look with a clutch to go!

MEGAN FOX

The actress was a firestorm as she opted for a bright red Dundas cutout gown and sported sleek Bettie Page-inspired bangs. The red lips, sparkly makeup and red heels added a lot of sass to the look.

IRINA SHAYK

Irina Shayk wore a fresh, floral cutout dress with a sheer and nude undertone that featured a trail filled with floral cutouts. The dress featured a fitted bodice, hugging her curves with bronzed cheeks and natural makeup. She styled this piece from Moschino.

EMILY BLUNT

Emily Blunt wowed in a heavily embellished white wonder from Miu Miu. She looked gorgeous in this piece with white details, a high neck, and cap sleeves with a star headgear. Emily made a statement and shone like a bright diamond in the body-hugging number.

RITA ORA

Rita Ora walked the red carpet with Taika Waititi. She wore a set with a plunging cropped top and a skirt and a satin cape and heavy jewellery. Rita kept her makeup shimmer with soft blush, neat side-parted hair. The figure-hugging number was a stunning piece- the perfect wonder for the Met.

JUSTIN BIEBER AND HAILEY BALDWIN

Hailey Baldwin styled a simple black bodycon dress with a plunging neckline with shiny studs. The dress was a perfectly cut piece that hugged her curves. She completed the look with black wayfarer sunglasses. Justin on the other hand promoted his home brand Drew House. He wore an oversized suit with a crisp white shirt, white sneakers, and dew house a bag to finish off the look.

JENNIFER LOPEZ

Jennifer walked the carpet in a custom-made Ralph Lauren trailing embroidered western long dress with a plunging neck, a faux fur shearling cape. The look is completed with vintage accessories: a cowboy hat, belt to give the look structure, and silver heels.

HALLE AND CHLOÉ BERRY

The sisters made quite the fashionable appearance at the Met dressed in creations from Rodarte. Chloé was seen in a figure-hugging white dress with a plunging neck, trailing sleeves, and a massive slit as she showed off her long legs. Halle, on the other hand, styled a short fringe dress in bubblegum pink, risqué plunging neck dress with her hair in a high ponytail and slingback peep-toe heels.

KIM KARDASHIAN

Kim Kardashian was spotted in quite an unusual look, full coverage Balenciaga outfit. She wore a short dress with slacks and a full cover mask with black pumps. Her hair was in a sleek ponytail with pointy black pumps and the black trails following her everywhere.

KENDALL JENNER

Kendall Jenner made a shiny appearance at the Met Gala in a sparkly Givenchy outfit looking stunning in the sheer price with heavy embellishments. The slightly flared dress featured a mermaid-styled cut with heavy work around the sleeves and neck with a rhinestoned lining all over the piece.

SHAWN MENDES AND CAMILA CABELLO

Shawn and Camila Cabello made a smashing appearance together. They were both seen dressed in Michael Kors. Shawn left his shirt at home and walked in showing off his abs in an open leather jacket and pants with accessories. Camila on the other hand looked attractive in a body-hugging sparkly purple number.

GIGI HADID

Gigi Hadid was seen in a gorgeous white corset fit gown from Prada. The dress featured a tube top with pleats and a mermaid cut to flatter her curves. Her makeup was outstanding with a powder blue eye shadow, her ginger hair in a high ponytail with elbow-length leather gloves.

EMILY RATAJKOWSKI

Emily Ratajkowski was seen dressed in a gorgeous crimson dress from ace designer Vera Wang. She chose the dress with a trumpet silhouette accented by a hand-sewn lace appliqué and cutaway details. It also featured a gorgeous hand-cut organza floral neckpiece that made her outfit stand out. Emily looked beautiful in the dress for America- A Lexicon of Fashion.

MEGAN THEE STALLION

Megan made quite a muted-down but classy appearance for Fashion’s biggest night in a custom-made shift on Coach dress. The sweetheart neck dress featured a bustier top with heavy side ruched-up detail and tulle gathering. The makeup was stand out dewy with tightly curled hair.

RIHANNA

Rihanna is hosting the Met After Party this year and she walked in as it dressed in all black. She wore a heavy dress with tightly wound ruffles and headgear and topped off the look heavy diamond jewels to break the black monotony. Complementing her and adding zest to the whole look was her date for the night, ASAP Rocky, in a colorful quilt over a plain look!

CAREY MULLIGAN

Carey Mulligan made a splash on the carpet dressed in a bright pink Maison Valentino ball gown with a side cape. Her dress did all of the talking for her as her makeup was fresh and hair was pulled back in a neat updo with a fringe.

HAILEE STEINFELD

Hailee Steinfeld looked like a stunner on the carpet. She gave long gowns and trails a miss. She styled a chic short dress with cutouts and details from Iris Van Herpen. The Magnetosphere dress featured structural designs with heavy work and embellishments.

NORMANI

Normani knows how to usher in the drama. She created a splash on the carpet in a bright yellow dress with massive sleeves, a plunging neck, a cinch at the waist, and a massive bottom with a heavy poof. She made a dramatic appearance in a Valentino outfit with stark blue jewels.

LILI REINHART

Lili Reinhart looked fresh and fun on the carpet in a floral creation from Christian Siriano. She honoured the 50 states and their flowers in this soft pink creation with a trail at the back and a super short dress with a fitted top and lining to make it stand out with colourful flowers to steal the show.

LAURA HARRIER

Laura brought in the gold for the evening in a gorgeous metallic gold dress from Altuzurra. She wore this body fit number with a criss cross pattern The metallic dress made a sparkling look and was simple yet made quite a statement for the theme.

VICTORIA, DAVID BECKHAM - BROOKLYN BECKHAM AND NICOLA PELTZ

If it’s Fashion, the Beckhams have to give their approval! And this time was no different. Victoria and David made an appearance complementing each other in black and white. David chose a crisp black suit and Victoria went for an all-white lace piece to the gala. Their son Brooklyn Beckham also made his carpet debut with fiancé Nicola Peltz.

LUPITA NYONG’O

Lupita made an appearance in an asymmetrical piece from Versace with blue and black undertones. The top half featured pleats, tight folds at the bottom with a denim finish, and a black shimmer underlay.

IMAN

Iman was literally the showstopper for the event dressed in a gorgeous over-the-top gold outfit from the Harris Reed x Dolce and Gabbana. It featured heavy fur with gold undertones and headgear with gold featherwork and a fitted bodice suit.

TESSA THOMPSON

Tessa Thompson was seen in a caged top with a crimson red heavy bottom Iris Van Herpen creation for the Met Gala. She completed the look with knee-high boots and extravagant ruffles to complete the look.

ZOE KRAVITZ

Zoe Kravitz looked jaw-dropping hot in a see-through slip from Yves Saint Laurent. The embellished slip showcased her curves and was a sultry number for the evening with silver undergarments and a neat crimped hairdo.

MALUMA

Maluma rocked a red hot outfit with a jacket and pants with heavy rhinestone work with fringe detail on the sleeves and custom-made gold jewellery from Aslan World. He dons the 14k gold glove with the red Versace fit.

CL

CL debuted at the Met Gala in the most understated yet perfect for the themed outfit. She wore an Alexander Wang outfit with a denim robe with white underwear. She looked stunning as she showed off her envious figure. She gave a nod to her Korean roots with a knot on her denim robe playing it to Korean Hanbok.

BLACKPINK ROSÉ

Rosé also marked her debut for the event and shook the fashion world dressed in a beautiful black with a white satin overlay bow by YSL. The deep-neck sleeveless dress looked stunning on her and made her look every bit divine.
